Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941) was Emmy Scheyer’s most important painter friend. He lived in a difficult relationship with Marianne von Werefkin. In 1916, after meeting Emmy Scheyer in exile in Switzerland, he painted and drew a number of pictures which were inspired by her. He entrusted her with many pictures for a publication and for sale. An exhibition in Wiesbaden was so successful that he settled there in 1921.
